Canny Alternative for iOS Apps: The Native SDK Their Own Users Are Asking For
Canny's own feedback board has a 105-vote request for a native mobile widget that's still open. Here's what a real native iOS SDK looks like.
Canny is the tool most people mean when they say "Canny-style" feedback board - a mature, widely-used platform for collecting feature requests, running a public roadmap, publishing a changelog, and now, with Canny Autopilot, pulling feature requests straight out of sales and support conversations automatically. It's a real product with real AI investment, not a comparison-post strawman.
But search Canny's own feedback board for "native mobile" and you'll find the company's most-requested unshipped feature is a native mobile widget - open, unresolved, 105 votes at time of writing. If you're building an iOS app and searching for a Canny alternative, that's usually why: Canny's mobile story is a website wrapped in a WebView, not a native SDK, and Canny's own customers have been asking for better since before this post existed.
What Canny does well
Fair to lead with, because Canny didn't get to be the category-default by accident:
- Canny Autopilot. AI that captures feedback from sales and support conversations (Gong, Intercom, Slack) automatically, then identifies and prioritizes feature requests - Canny claims it's "30% better than our live team at identifying feature requests." That's a real AI feature, not a marketing bullet.
- Deep integrations. 20+ tools including Jira, Slack, Asana, Salesforce, HubSpot, GitHub, and Zendesk - if your team already lives in those tools, Canny's automation rules and PM integrations plug in directly.
- Bug tracking as a board type. Canny lets you run bug reports as a separate board from feature requests, with file attachments for screenshots or screen recordings, and syncs to Jira/ClickUp.
- A real free tier. $0/month for 25 tracked users and 5 managers, unlimited contributors, with the core board/portal/widget feature set included.
If your product is a web app or SaaS dashboard, Canny is a legitimate, well-integrated choice.
Where the gap is for iOS apps
Search "in app mobile SDK" or "native mobile widget" on Canny's own feedback board and you'll find these, unshipped, as of this writing:
- Native Mobile Widget - 105 votes. The request: a native widget instead of a WebView, ideally with SSO built in, "starting with iOS." Still open.
- In app mobile SDK's for iOS and Android - 3 votes. The request: "Should have in-app SDK to take the feedback from end users rather than having the link."
Canny's actual mobile solution today: a widget you embed via WKWebView, pointed at a hosted URL (webview.canny.io), which only works with SSO wired up. It's a real, documented integration path - just not a native one.
| Capability | Canny | FeedbackOS |

| Feedback board, voting, public roadmap | Yes | Yes |
| Native iOS SDK | No - WKWebView + hosted URL | Yes |
| Bug reports with automatic screenshot + device/OS metadata | No - manual file attachment to a form | Yes |
| Closed reply loop rendered natively in-app | No - webview/portal | Yes |
| AI on submitted feedback | Yes - Autopilot mines support/sales conversations after the fact | Yes - auto-tag + live "already requested" nudge as the user types |
| Integrations (Jira, Slack, Salesforce, etc.) | Yes, 20+ | Not yet |
| Pricing | Free (25 tracked users) to $79/mo+ billed yearly, metered by tracked users/managers | $99/yr founding, flat, unlimited apps and users |
Why the WebView gap matters
A hosted-URL WebView widget means: your mobile feedback UI depends on a network fetch of a remote page at the exact moment a user wants to report something, it requires standing up SSO before it'll even run, and any bug report your users file needs a manually-attached screenshot - there's no automatic capture of what screen they were on, what OS version, or what your app version was. Compare that to a crash a user hits offline on a plane: with Canny's mobile widget, there's no fallback. With a compiled native SDK, the report still queues.
None of this makes Canny worse at what it's built for - deep integrations, AI-driven conversation mining, a mature web portal. It means the mobile layer is the part that's still a workaround, which is exactly what Canny's own highest-voted open request says.
What FeedbackOS does instead
FeedbackOS is a native Swift SDK built for exactly the gap above:
- Native bug capture, not a manual attachment. Screenshots and device/OS context come through automatically the moment someone reports a problem - no WebView dependency, no separate attach-a-file step.
- Voting and roadmap live in the app, rendered as native views, not a hosted page inside a WKWebView.
- Replies land back in-app, not in a separate portal or embedded page.
- Dedup happens before submission, not after - a live "this might already be requested" nudge as someone types, instead of Autopilot's after-the-fact conversation mining.
(Our feature request tool guide breaks down why submission-time dedup - not after-the-fact AI mining - is the stage that actually keeps a feedback board's vote counts accurate.)
What FeedbackOS doesn't have yet: Canny's breadth of PM-tool integrations (Jira, Salesforce, and the rest) - if your workflow depends on those today, that's a real reason to stay on Canny for now. See the full pricing breakdown - $99/year founding, flat, unlimited apps and users, vs. Canny's tracked-user/manager-seat metering.
Should you switch?
If your product is primarily a website or web app, Canny's integrations and Autopilot AI are hard to beat, and there's no reason to move. If you're specifically trying to collect feedback and bug reports inside a native iOS app - the exact gap 105 people have upvoted on Canny's own board - a native SDK closes it in a way a WebView widget structurally can't.
Founding price is $99/year, locked for life, for the first cohort.

Does Canny have a native iOS SDK?
No. Canny's mobile solution is a widget embedded via WKWebView, pointed at a hosted URL, and it requires SSO to be configured first. Canny's own feedback board has an open request for a native mobile widget with 105 votes as of this writing.
Does Canny support bug reports?
Yes - bug reports are a supported board type, separate from feature requests, and sync to tools like Jira and ClickUp. Screenshots are added as manual file attachments to the feedback form, not captured automatically.
Does Canny have AI features?
Yes - Canny Autopilot analyzes sales and support conversations (via integrations like Gong, Intercom, and Slack) to automatically surface and prioritize feature requests. It's a different mechanism than submission-time duplicate detection.
Is FeedbackOS a drop-in replacement for Canny?
For a native iOS feedback surface, yes - bug reports, screenshots, voting, roadmap, and a closed reply loop are all covered. FeedbackOS doesn't yet match Canny's 20+ tool integrations or its Autopilot-style conversation mining; if those are core to your workflow, Canny remains the stronger choice for the web/PM side even if you add FeedbackOS for the in-app layer.
